Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about AeroPrep: how it works, what's included, and how we can help you pass your EASA PPL theory exams. Can't find what you're looking for? Email support@aeroprep.eu and we'll get back to you within one business day.

What is AeroPrep?

AeroPrep is an EASA PPL theory exam preparation platform built for student pilots in Europe. It provides access to a comprehensive question bank across all 9 PPL theory subjects, with realistic exam simulation, intelligent progress tracking, and native iOS and Android apps. It was built by NEXIEL LIMITED, an Irish technology company, to give student pilots a better, more accessible way to prepare for their ground exams.

Who is AeroPrep designed for?

AeroPrep is designed primarily for student pilots pursuing their EASA PPL(A), Private Pilot Licence for aeroplanes, under any EASA member state. It is equally useful for LAPL(A) students, as the LAPL syllabus is a subset of the full PPL curriculum. Student pilots at both independent flight schools (ATOs) and self-study routes will benefit. The platform is also used by flight schools and instructors to monitor student progress and assign practice exams.

Is AeroPrep affiliated with EASA?

No. AeroPrep is an independent preparation platform produced by NEXIEL LIMITED. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to EASA (the European Union Aviation Safety Agency) or any national aviation authority. Our questions are independently authored and reviewed, aligned with the published EASA PPL syllabus and the multiple-choice format used in authorised examination centres. We do not reproduce or distribute official European Central Question Bank (ECQB) items.

What countries can use AeroPrep?

AeroPrep is available to anyone, anywhere in the world. The content is specifically aligned with the EASA PPL syllabus, making it most relevant for student pilots training in EASA member states: the 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (which continues to accept EASA-aligned training under bilateral arrangements). Students training for FAA certificates may find some content useful but should use FAA-specific preparation tools for their written exams.

Is there a free trial?

You can browse the platform and explore your dashboard without a paid plan. To access full question practice sessions and exam simulations, an active subject plan is required. We do not currently offer a timed free trial.

How is AeroPrep different from other EASA PPL prep tools?

Several things set AeroPrep apart. First, we offer genuinely native iOS and Android apps, not a mobile browser wrapper, giving you a smooth, responsive study experience on your phone. Second, our progress tracking uses spaced repetition weighting, meaning questions you get wrong are served more frequently until you master them. Third, our pricing is straightforward and transparent: one-time access fees with no recurring subscription traps. Fourth, our school integration lets instructors monitor student progress and assign progress tests.

How many theory exams are there for the EASA PPL?

There are 9 separate theory examinations for the EASA PPL(A): Air Law, Aircraft General Knowledge, Flight Performance & Planning, Human Performance & Limitations, Meteorology, Navigation, Operational Procedures, Principles of Flight, and Communication. Each is a separate exam with its own time limit.

What is the pass mark for EASA PPL theory exams?

The pass mark for every EASA PPL theory exam is 75%. There is no averaging between subjects: you must achieve 75% or above in each individual exam to pass. A score of 74% in Navigation is a fail, regardless of how well you performed in other subjects.

What format are the EASA PPL theory exams?

All EASA PPL theory exams are delivered as Computer-Based Tests (CBT) at approved examination centres. Each exam consists of multiple-choice questions with four possible answers (A, B, C, or D), of which exactly one is correct. In authorised centres, questions are drawn from the official European Central Question Bank (ECQB) maintained by EASA. AeroPrep simulates the same CBT-style format for practice; our questions are independent study material.

How many times can I resit an EASA theory exam if I fail?

EASA regulations allow up to 3 attempts at each theory exam within an 18-month period. If you fail a subject three times, you must recommence the entire theory phase. Passing all 9 subjects within that 18-month window is a regulatory requirement. This is one of the most important reasons thorough preparation matters: retakes are not unlimited.

How long are the EASA PPL theory exams?

Each paper is 20 multiple-choice questions. Official time allowances are: Air Law: 30 minutes Aircraft General Knowledge: 30 minutes Flight Performance & Planning: 60 minutes Human Performance & Limitations: 30 minutes Meteorology: 60 minutes Navigation: 60 minutes Operational Procedures: 30 minutes Principles of Flight: 30 minutes Communication: 30 minutes

Can I sit all 9 theory exams at the same time?

This depends on your national aviation authority's rules and your approved training organisation (ATO). Some authorities allow multiple exams in a single sitting session; others require them to be spread over multiple visits. Check with your flight school or ATO for the specific booking process in your country.

Do I need to complete a certain number of flight hours before sitting the theory exams?

EASA regulations require that theory exams be completed within the PPL training programme at an ATO or DTO. The specific sequencing (how many hours of dual instruction before you can sit exams) varies by national authority and school. In most cases, students begin ground school and theory study early in their training, often before or during early flight lessons. Check with your flight school.

What is the European Central Question Bank (ECQB)?

The ECQB is the official database of theory exam questions maintained by EASA from which national authorities draw questions for CBT exams. It is periodically reviewed and updated by EASA to reflect regulatory changes and support exam accuracy. AeroPrep provides independent practice questions aligned with the published syllabus; we do not reproduce ECQB content.

Is the same question bank used across all EU countries?

Yes. The ECQB is a centralised European bank used by all EASA member states, which means a student in Ireland, France, or Germany is preparing for exams drawn from the same regulatory source. AeroPrep is designed to support preparation for that shared syllabus and exam style.

How does study mode work?

Study mode presents questions one at a time in a randomised order drawn from your chosen subject's question bank. You select one of four answers. After answering, you immediately see whether you were correct, the correct answer is highlighted, and a detailed explanation is shown. You can bookmark any question for later review and flag any question you believe may be inaccurate. Study mode has no time limit: it is designed for learning, not testing.

How does exam simulation mode work?

Exam simulation mode replicates the real EASA CBT experience as closely as possible. A randomised set of questions matching the official count for your chosen subject is assembled. A countdown timer runs throughout, matching the official time limit. You can navigate between questions freely, flag questions for review, and see your overall progress through the paper. On completion (or when the timer runs out), you receive your score, pass/fail result, time used, and a full breakdown of every question with the correct answers and explanations.

What is spaced repetition and how does AeroPrep use it?

Spaced repetition is a scientifically proven learning technique that presents information you struggle with more frequently and information you've mastered less frequently, optimising your study time. In AeroPrep's study mode, questions you answer incorrectly are weighted to appear more often in subsequent sessions. Questions you consistently answer correctly appear less frequently. Over time, this means your weakest areas receive the most attention automatically, without you having to manually identify and revisit them.

Can I filter questions by topic or difficulty?

Yes. In study mode, you can filter by difficulty level (Easy, Medium, Hard), show only questions you've previously answered incorrectly, or show only your bookmarked questions. This lets you run targeted study sessions, for example showing only the Hard questions you got wrong in Meteorology.

Can I use AeroPrep offline?

The native iOS and Android apps support offline use for active study sessions. Questions for your current session are cached in the app once loaded. You cannot start a new session or sync your progress without an internet connection, but if you're mid-session and lose connectivity, you can continue until the session ends. The web application requires an internet connection.

Does my progress sync between the app and the website?

Yes. Your progress, exam history, bookmarks, and streak data are stored on our servers and sync across all your devices and platforms in real time. Start a session on your phone on the bus, continue on your laptop at home: everything stays in sync.

What is a study streak?

Your streak is the number of consecutive days on which you completed at least one question session. Maintaining a daily streak is one of the most effective habits for consistent theory preparation. AeroPrep tracks your current streak and your longest ever streak, and sends you a reminder notification if you haven't studied by a certain time each day (configurable in your account settings).

Can I bookmark questions?

Yes. Any question in study mode or after an exam result can be bookmarked. Bookmarked questions are saved to a personal review list accessible at any time from your subject's study menu. You can add an optional note to any bookmark, useful for linking a question to a specific chapter in your study notes.

Can I flag questions as incorrect or outdated?

Yes. Every question has a Report option that lets you flag it with a note explaining your concern. Flagged questions are reviewed by our team. If a question is found to be incorrect, outdated, or ambiguous, it is corrected or removed, and the reporting user is notified.

How do I create an account?

Visit aeroprep.eu/register. Enter your email address, choose a password, and verify your email. Your account is created instantly. You can explore your dashboard and subject overview immediately. A subject plan is required to begin full question practice.

Can I share my account with another student?

No. AeroPrep accounts are licensed for individual use only. Each account is permitted a maximum of two concurrent active sessions (for example your phone and your laptop simultaneously). Our security system detects when an account is used across an unusual number of devices and will automatically flag and restrict access. Sharing accounts is a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in account suspension without refund.

Can I use AeroPrep on multiple devices?

Yes, on up to two devices simultaneously. You can use your account on your iPhone, Android phone, laptop, and desktop, but no more than two at the exact same time. Switching between devices is seamless; your progress syncs automatically.

How do I reset my password?

On the login page, click Forgot password? and enter your registered email address. You'll receive a password reset link via email within a few minutes. The link is valid for 30 minutes. If you don't see the email, check your spam or junk folder. If you still can't find it, contact support@aeroprep.eu.

How do I cancel or manage my account?

You can manage your account settings at aeroprep.eu/account. Since AeroPrep plans are one-time purchases (not recurring subscriptions), there is nothing to cancel in the subscription sense: your access simply expires at the end of your plan period. If you have questions about your account or wish to request a data deletion under GDPR, contact support@aeroprep.eu.

Can I request a copy of my data?

Yes. Under GDPR, you have the right to request a copy of all personal data we hold about you. Submit your request to privacy@aeroprep.eu and we will provide a full data export within 30 days. You can also request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.

What plans are available?

AeroPrep offers four plans: Single Subject, 30 Days (€14.99): full access to one subject of your choice for 30 days All 9 Subjects, 30 Days (€26.99): full access to all subjects for 30 days All 9 Subjects, 90 Days (€54.99): full access to all subjects for 90 days All 9 Subjects, 180 Days (€84.99): full access to all subjects for 180 days All plans are one-time payments, not recurring subscriptions.

Are these recurring subscriptions?

No. Every AeroPrep plan is a one-time payment for a fixed access period. When your plan expires, you simply purchase a new one if you need continued access. You will never be charged automatically without your explicit action.

When does my access start?

Your access begins the moment your payment is confirmed, typically within seconds of completing the Stripe checkout. You will receive a confirmation email, and your subject access will be live immediately when you log in.

Why must I tick a waiver before Stripe checkout?

EU law normally gives consumers 14 days to withdraw from distance contracts. When you buy immediate digital content and explicitly ask us to deliver it straight away, that right can be waived under Article 16(m) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive. The unchecked checkbox records your informed consent before you leave our site for Stripe. Without it, checkout cannot proceed.

How do I purchase a plan?

All purchases are made on aeroprep.eu/pricing or directly from within your account dashboard (where checkout is available). Before you are sent to Stripe you must tick the mandatory waiver confirming immediate digital access and your waiver of the 14-day withdrawal right under Article 16(m). You are then redirected to a secure Stripe-hosted checkout page where you enter your payment details. Your card information never passes through our servers: it is handled entirely by Stripe. We accept all major credit and debit cards.

Why can't I purchase through the iOS or Android app?

Apple and Google charge a significant fee on in-app purchases, which would mean significantly higher prices for you. By purchasing through our website, we can offer lower prices and pass the savings to you. Once purchased on the website, your access is immediately available in the app: just log in.

Do you offer student discounts?

We do not currently offer a specific student discount, as our prices are already positioned competitively. We do run occasional promotional offers: subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on social media to be notified. Flight school students may also receive access at discounted rates if their school has a partnership with AeroPrep.

Can I get a VAT invoice for my purchase?

Yes. A VAT receipt is automatically generated for every purchase and emailed to you. If you need a formal VAT invoice (for example if your flight school or employer is reimbursing the cost), you can request one by emailing billing@aeroprep.eu with your purchase confirmation number.

What is your refund policy?

See our full Refund Policy at aeroprep.eu/refund-policy (last updated May 2026). In brief: digital access begins immediately and you waive your 14-day withdrawal right at checkout under Article 16(m) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive. We do not offer routine refunds once a plan is activated and questions have been accessed. We consider refunds for technical failures on our side if you contact support@aeroprep.eu within 14 days of the issue, duplicate purchases within 48 hours, genuine wrong-plan mistakes within 24 hours with fewer than 10 questions attempted, and compassionate cases at our discretion.

My payment failed. What should I do?

Payment failures are usually caused by insufficient funds, incorrect card details, or bank security restrictions on online transactions. Try again with a different card or contact your bank to authorise the transaction. If the problem persists, contact support@aeroprep.eu and we'll help resolve it.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. AeroPrep uses Stripe for all payment processing. We never store, see, or have access to your card details. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified, the highest level of payment security certification. All checkout pages use HTTPS encryption.

Where can I download the AeroPrep app?

The AeroPrep app is available on the Apple App Store (search AeroPrep EASA PPL) and Google Play Store (search AeroPrep EASA PPL). Both apps are free to download. An active plan purchased on aeroprep.eu is required to access full question practice.

Are the iOS and Android apps identical in features?

Yes. Both apps offer the same features: full question practice, timed exam simulation, progress dashboard, bookmarks, study streak tracking, and your full exam history. Any feature available on one platform is available on the other.

Does the app work on tablets?

Yes. Both the iOS app (iPad) and Android app (Android tablets) are designed for and tested on tablet screen sizes. The layout adapts to make better use of the larger screen, particularly in the progress dashboard and exam simulation screens.

Do I need to be connected to the internet to use the app?

An internet connection is required to start a new session, log in, and sync your progress. However, once a study session is loaded, it can continue in offline mode if you lose connectivity. Exam simulation sessions require a stable connection throughout to ensure accurate timing and result recording.

Are the apps free?

The apps are free to download. Accessing the full question bank requires an active plan purchased at aeroprep.eu. This is because we do not use in-app purchases (see the pricing FAQ above for why).

How does the school integration work?

Schools apply via aeroprep.eu/school/apply (organisation profile, training needs, billing preferences, electronic acceptance of the published Article 28 Data Processing Agreement, and other GDPR-related confirmations). After approval (typically within one business day), the school administrator gets access to the School Portal: an instructor-facing dashboard showing all enrolled students' progress across all subjects. Instructors can assign custom progress tests, monitor exam completion, and sign off students as ready for their formal EASA exams. Students access the same AeroPrep platform they already use: the school layer is additive, not separate.

What does the instructor dashboard show?

The instructor dashboard shows every enrolled student's performance by subject: percentage of questions attempted, average score, exam history, last active date, and an automatic at-risk flag for any student performing below 65% in any subject. You can drill into any individual student's full profile to see their detailed question attempt history and weak topics.

Can instructors create their own custom exams?

Yes. Instructors can build custom progress tests from the question bank: choose the subject, set the question count and time limit, select difficulty weighting, and assign to specific students or your whole cohort. Results are automatically captured and visible in the instructor dashboard as students complete them.

What is the instructor sign-off feature?

Before a student sits their formal EASA exam, their instructor can review their AeroPrep performance and mark them as Exam Ready for each subject directly in the platform. This sign-off is visible to the student in their app and dashboard as a green badge. It can also be included in the PDF progress report for ATO training records.

Can AeroPrep generate training records for our ATO?

Yes. For any enrolled student, instructors can generate a PDF progress report with one click. The report includes the student's name, school name, subscribed subjects, per-subject scores, full exam history, and instructor sign-off status. The format is designed to meet EASA ATO training record requirements.

How does school pricing work?

School billing has two parts: published School Portal tiers sized by active cohort (monthly or annual prepay — see aeroprep.eu/for-schools#pricing for €49–€169/month bands and enterprise quotes above 150 students), plus discounted per-student licence packs purchased through Licensing when you provision learners. Newly approved schools receive a 30-day portal trial (dashboard + assigned exams; bundled seats not included; student invitations capped at three until billing activates).

Is there a free School Portal trial?

Yes. Each newly approved school starts with 30 days of portal access so CFIs can explore the instructor dashboard and assigned exams before subscribing. Trial accounts do not include prepaid student seats — purchase pooled licences separately whenever you need them — and inviting learners is limited to three student roster slots (including pending invitations) until your portal subscription is active.

How do students join our school on AeroPrep?

The school administrator invites students by email from within the School Portal. Students receive an invitation email with a sign-up link that automatically links their account to the school. Students who already have an AeroPrep account can also be invited and linked without losing their existing progress.

Where is the school Data Processing Agreement (DPA)?

The Article 28 agreement is published at aeroprep.eu/dpa. Applicants accept it electronically as part of school registration; administrators can review and record acceptance in the School Portal (DPA page). When the published version changes, the portal prompts you to reaffirm. Email privacy@aeroprep.eu for procurement countersignatures.

Can schools export cohort progress data?

Yes. Download individual PDF reports from each student profile, bulk-download PDFs as a ZIP from the Students page (all linked students or filtered by intake; each ZIP supports up to 400 PDFs — run multiple exports or narrow by intake for larger cohorts), or export the cohort as CSV (Export cohort CSV), including per-subject attempts, accuracy, and exploration metrics.

We have 200 students. Can AeroPrep scale to that?

Yes. AeroPrep's infrastructure is built to handle large cohorts. Contact us at schools@aeroprep.eu to discuss enterprise-level school accounts with custom pricing and dedicated support.

How do you protect the question bank from being copied?

We take content protection seriously and have implemented multiple layers of security. Questions are served one at a time via authenticated API calls: the full question bank is never transmitted to any device in one request. Our web interface discourages casual copying. Mobile apps cache only what is needed for your active session. All sessions require an active, valid authentication token. While no digital protection is absolute, these measures make systematic extraction impractical.

What data do you collect and store?

We collect the data necessary to provide the service: your name, email address, authentication credentials, and your learning activity (question attempts, exam sessions, progress data). We do not sell your data to third parties. Full details are in our Privacy Policy at aeroprep.eu/privacy.

Is AeroPrep GDPR compliant?

Yes. AeroPrep is operated by NEXIEL LIMITED t/a AeroPrep, an Irish-registered company, and complies fully with GDPR. Your data is stored on servers in the European Union. You have the right to access, correct, port, and delete your data at any time. See our Privacy Policy for full details or contact privacy@aeroprep.eu with any data rights requests.

What browsers does the web app support?

AeroPrep supports all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (current versions). Internet Explorer is not supported. For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser updated to the latest version.

Does AeroPrep cover all 9 EASA PPL theory subjects?

Yes. Air Law, Aircraft General Knowledge, Flight Performance & Planning, Human Performance & Limitations, Meteorology, Navigation, Operational Procedures, Principles of Flight, and Communication are all fully covered.

Is there an app, or is it web only?

Both. AeroPrep has a native iOS app (App Store) and a native Android app (Google Play), as well as a full web application at aeroprep.eu. Your account, progress, and subscriptions sync seamlessly across all platforms.

How does purchasing work? Can I buy through the app?

All purchases are made on aeroprep.eu using Stripe, the same secure payment platform used by millions of businesses worldwide. Once purchased, your access is immediately active across the web and both apps. We do not use in-app purchases, which means no App Store or Play Store surcharge is passed to you.

Can I study on multiple devices?

Yes, up to two devices simultaneously. Your progress is synced in real time. If you exceed two concurrent sessions, the oldest session is ended automatically.

Do I need a subscription to keep my progress?

No. Your account and all your progress data are stored permanently. Only your access to new question sessions requires an active plan. Your exam history and stats remain visible even after your plan expires.

Is the exam simulation accurate to the real EASA CBT?

Our exam simulation uses the official question count and time limits for each subject as specified in EASA FCL regulations. We mirror the four-option multiple-choice format. Question selection is randomised, similar to authorised CBT delivery. AeroPrep questions are independent practice material.

What happens if I fail a subject on AeroPrep mock exams?

That's exactly what the platform is for: identifying gaps before they matter. Review your detailed results, use the weak-topic analysis to focus your study, and re-sit the mock until you're consistently above 80%. The 75% threshold in the real exam should feel comfortable by then.

Is AeroPrep suitable for LAPL theory exams too?

The LAPL (Light Aircraft Pilot Licence) theory exams draw from a subset of the same syllabus. AeroPrep's content covers the full PPL syllabus, which is a superset of LAPL requirements, so LAPL students will find it highly useful.

Do you offer refunds?

We do not offer routine refunds once access has been activated and you have used the question bank. You waive your 14-day withdrawal right at checkout under Article 16(m). Exceptions are described in detail at aeroprep.eu/refund-policy (technical faults, duplicates, limited mistaken purchases, compassionate cases). Email support@aeroprep.eu if you believe your situation qualifies.

I'm a flight school. Is there a school pricing option?

Yes. Schools receive discounted per-student rates plus access to the instructor dashboard, assigned exams, PDF progress reports, and bulk licensing. Register your school or contact us to discuss your requirements.

Will ATPL preparation be available?

ATPL preparation is on our roadmap. The platform is built to expand to all 13 ATPL subjects. We'll notify all existing users when it launches.
